The 11th Conference of Governors: Dialogue and Coordination for Local Development in the DRC

The 11th Conference of Governors opened this Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in Kalemie, Tanganyika province, under the chairmanship of Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. This annual event is a crucial forum for dialogue and coordination between the Congolese provinces and the central government.

During this three-day meeting, the governors of the provinces recently elected following the December 2023 elections will have the opportunity to exchange with renowned experts who have held senior positions at the national level. This year’s theme, focused on the Local Development Program of the 145 Territories (PDL 145-T), highlights the importance of strengthening provincial governance to ensure community cohesion, a key element of the success of the PDL 145 T.

The Conference of Governors is of great importance because it allows for the issue of relevant opinions and the formulation of concrete recommendations on the political orientations to be followed and the laws to be developed. Organized on an itinerant basis, it takes place annually in each province, thus offering a unique opportunity for interactions between local authorities and the central government.

This year, the event is part of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi’s visit to the province of Tanganyika. By promoting exchanges and collaboration between the various government bodies, the Governors’ Conference aims to strengthen provincial governance and promote the harmonious development of the entire country.

In short, this annual meeting is of capital importance for the consolidation of democracy and the promotion of local development in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It illustrates the commitment of national and provincial authorities to work together to meet the challenges and aspirations of citizens, in the interests of cohesion and collective progress.
