Towards a society without silence or violence: Liliane Komba’s urgent appeal

**Fatshimétrie: The fight against sexual violence and the silence of victims**

The commitment against sexual violence and gender-based violence is at the heart of our society’s concerns. It is in this context that the Vice-President of the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga, Liliane Komba, recently spoke out to denounce the silence surrounding many victims of these despicable acts.

During the launch of the 16-day campaign of activism against sexual violence in Lubumbashi, Liliane Komba strongly stressed the importance of breaking this silence, which makes victims even more vulnerable. She highlighted the need to denounce the perpetrators of this violence, emphasizing that only justice will allow victims to rebuild their lives and survive.

It is crucial to raise awareness about laws and legal instruments aimed at protecting women and girls. Ignorance of these rights can prevent victims from pursuing their attackers, leaving them trapped in a cycle of violence from which they have difficulty breaking out. Personal development is compromised, and the very survival of these women is threatened.

Liliane Komba’s call to the entire community to combat this scourge is more relevant than ever. The mobilization of civil society, legal professionals such as the collective of women jurists and women lawyers, members of parliament and government authorities is essential to find effective solutions.

By placing justice and solidarity at the heart of the fight against sexual violence, we can hope to create a safer and more protective environment for women and girls. Everyone must take their share of responsibility in this collective approach aimed at putting an end to these unacceptable practices.

Together, by breaking the silence and acting in a coordinated manner, we can build a future where the dignity and rights of everyone are respected. It is time to put an end to this violence which has no place in our society.
