Celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Philosophy and the ambitious projects of Loyola University of Congo

On November 25, Loyola University of Congo (ULC) celebrated with great pomp a major event in its history: the 70th anniversary of its Faculty of Philosophy, the 30th anniversary of agricultural and veterinary sciences, as well as the 10th anniversary of science and technology. This occasion allowed the prestigious university institution to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to training competent executives and to resolving real social challenges that hinder the development of Congolese society.

Under the enlightened leadership of Reverend Father Ferdinand Muhigirwa, Rector of the ULC, the educational philosophy of the Jesuit Fathers has played a leading role in the reputation of the institution, both nationally and internationally. It is with this in mind that the ULC is preparing to open new faculties in the coming years, including that of business administration and social sciences. These new locations illustrate the university’s desire to train competent and responsible executives, capable of meeting the country’s needs and actively contributing to its socio-economic development.

The chairman of the ULC board of directors, Mgr Donatien Bafwidinsoni, highlighted the importance of this expansion by announcing the future opening of the business school faculty, also known as the school of business administration, as well as that of social sciences. These initiatives are part of a broader project aimed at providing excellent training to Congolese youth, with the aim of preparing the country’s future leaders to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

The international conference organized as part of this double anniversary, entitled “Jesuit university education in the DRC and Africa, challenges and perspectives”, made it possible to address the major issues that drive the higher education sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo and on the African continent. Beyond the simple commemoration, this event gave rise to constructive and inspiring exchanges, thus paving the way for new educational strategies and strengthened collaboration between higher education stakeholders.

In conclusion, Loyola University of Congo is firmly positioned as a key player in higher education in the DRC, and its commitment to academic excellence and pedagogical innovation has only grown stronger over the years. With its Jesuit heritage and progressive vision, ULC is establishing itself as a bastion of knowledge and integrity, training a new generation of leaders ready to shape the future of their country and their continent.
