An unprecedented tragedy struck the Lulalumene sector, located in the Kimvula territory, Kongo-Central province. On November 24, an ambush by alleged Mobondo militiamen cost the life of one person and led to the kidnapping of four other innocent people. These kidnappers, originally from Popokabaka in the neighboring province of Kwango, led their captives into a captivity that lasted nearly two weeks, sowing terror and desolation in their wake.

The harrowing account of the survivors bears witness to the horror experienced on that tragic day. A vehicle, coming from the Kinsafu village in the Lubisi sector, fell into the trap set by the Mobondo militiamen at the Ngana village, on the road well known as Nzela ya sima ndako. The occupants were threatened with death, seven people in total were kidnapped, including a man, five women and a two-year-old child. Unfortunately, the man was coldly executed en route to Popokabaka.

After a fourteen-day ordeal, two women were finally able to regain their freedom and return to the town of Kimvula. Their chilling story reveals inhumane acts inflicted by their captors, violence that has marked them forever.

Faced with this critical situation, the administrator of Kimvula, Victor Lusaku, is sounding the alarm. He highlights the urgent need for military intervention to rescue the four other captives still being held, risking a fatal outcome if no action is taken. The border areas between Kimvula and the Kwango province have proven to be fertile ground for incursions by Mobondo militiamen, giving free rein to terror and desolation.

The ineffectiveness of the armed forces in these border regions, due to reduced numbers, restricted mobility and limited means of communication, adds an alarming dimension to this crisis. Victor Lusaku therefore calls on the competent authorities to strengthen the presence of law enforcement, in order to counter the expansion of this insidious threat and protect the innocent population trapped in the violence.

This tragedy reveals the security gaps in these remote regions, requiring an immediate and coordinated response to guarantee the safety of local populations and put an end to the exactions of the Mobondo militiamen. The mobilization of appropriate resources and means is an urgent necessity, in order to restore peace and stability in these regions ravaged by violence and instability.
