Maintaining the same candidates in the legislative elections in Masimanimba raises questions

Fatshimetrie recently reported a disturbing and surprising piece of news regarding the legislative elections in Masimanimba scheduled for December 15, 2024. While new candidacies could have been expected following the cancellation of previous results and accusations of electoral fraud, it was announced that no new candidates will be allowed to run. Indeed, despite evidence of reprehensible behavior by some candidates for parliament during the 2023 elections, no judicial decision has yet been taken regarding their disqualification.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) clarified its position during a consultation meeting in Masimanimba. According to Dieudonné Mbukani, senior advisor to the president of the CENI, the list of candidates remains unchanged, and all candidates from the previous elections will be maintained for the next elections. He stressed that the responsibility to validate or invalidate the candidacies lies with the Court of Cassation, and as long as no decision has been made, the CENI will continue with the same candidates.

This situation has sparked mixed reactions among voters in Masimanimba, with some expressing concern about the legitimacy and integrity of the electoral process. The awareness-raising conducted by the CENI among the local population aims to ensure active and conscious participation in these elections considered as models.

It is crucial to stress the importance of a transparent and fair democracy, where the rights of all citizens are respected and where electoral processes are honest. The competent authorities should take swift and effective measures to ensure that the elections in Masimanimba are conducted in accordance with democratic standards.

In conclusion, the maintenance of the same candidates for the upcoming legislative elections in Masimanimba raises legitimate questions about the integrity of the electoral process. It is essential to closely monitor the evolving situation and ensure that the popular will is respected in a transparent and fair democratic environment.
