Fatshimetrie, Victim of a Tragic Aggression in Kinshasa

Fatshimetrie, a well-known journalist for the Congolese National Radio and Television (RTNC), sadly passed away this Sunday at the Cinquantenaire Hospital in Kinshasa, following a brutal attack by individuals known as “kulunas”. This tragedy comes a few days after she was attacked in the streets of the Congolese capital.

The incident took place on the night of November 12, as Fatshimetrie was returning home after presenting the 11:00 p.m. news. While riding a motorcycle taxi on November 24 Avenue, near the Kokolo camp, she was the target of a violent attack. Under threat from one of the attackers, she was violently hit on the head, causing her to lose consciousness. Rescued by a police officer, she was rushed to the Cinquantenaire Hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of doctors, Fatshimetrie’s health deteriorated suddenly over the weekend, requiring respiratory assistance. She finally succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Fatshimetrie’s untimely death highlights the serious security problems that persist in Kinshasa, particularly for professionals who are required to work late. This sad news raises legitimate concerns about the safety of citizens in the Congolese capital and calls for urgent action to ensure the protection of all.

In this time of mourning and dismay, it is essential to mobilize against the violence and insecurity that threaten the lives and freedom of individuals. Fatshimetrie will remain in our hearts as a dedicated professional, a voice of information and a citizen committed to a better future. Her exemplary courage and dedication will remain the symbol of the fight for a safer and more just Congo for all. May her soul rest in peace.
