The Leopards Women of the Democratic Republic of Congo are actively preparing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held from November 27 to December 7. Under the direction of head coach Clément Machy, the players have begun their final training phase at the Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte in Kinshasa. The technical staff, supervised by coordinator Francis Tuzolana, has assembled a group of 17 players, two of whom play locally, to strengthen the team composed mainly of players playing abroad.
This intensive preparation was marked by a training camp in Europe, where the Congolese players showed clear progress by winning against their Portuguese opponents. This positive dynamic suggests great performances in the upcoming competition. The Congolese women’s team is placed in Group B of the CAN, alongside Angola, Tunisia, Guinea, Cameroon and Uganda. This is a major challenge for the Leopards Women, who will be keen to represent their country with dignity during this historic competition, which will take place for the first time in the DRC.
The draw in September was meticulously organised by the Congolese authorities, who have undertaken to provide an impeccable setting for the matches. The matches will take place in the twin halls of the Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte, specially fitted out for the occasion. The two groups, A and B, are made up of talented African nations, thus promising a high-level sporting spectacle.
This edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations therefore promises to be thrilling for the Leopards Women of the DRC, who will be keen to shine on the continental stage and proudly defend the colours of their country. With a determined team in full preparation, Congolese supporters can legitimately have high hopes for this competition which promises to be an unmissable event for women’s football in Africa.
