These armed incursions which threaten peace in South Kivu

The peaceful calm of the night was disturbed by an incursion of armed men into the village of Kalungu, located precisely in Rwamiko, in the Kalehe territory in South Kivu. During this brutal attack which took place on the night of Sunday to Monday, November 18, several houses were targeted and looted. The violence of this incursion left the local population in shock.

The kidnappers did not hesitate to take away livestock, including goats, chickens and sheep, as well as telephones. These draconian actions have a devastating impact on the local community, which once again finds itself the victim of the insecurity that reigns in the Minova-Kalehe region.

Civil society, which guarantees the protection of the rights and security of citizens, is protesting against this resurgence of security incidents perpetrated by local armed groups, such as the Wazalendo, known for their brutality. Recent clashes between two factions of the Wazalendo, the MCDP of Karuba and another of Lumbishi, resulted in one victim last Thursday, increasing the tension and violence that reign in the region.

Faced with these unacceptable acts of violence and this persistent situation of insecurity, it is urgent that the competent authorities take effective measures to protect the local populations and guarantee their security. It is essential to put an end to the exactions of the armed groups and to ensure stability and peace in the South Kivu region.

In conclusion, these armed incursions and recent looting reflect an alarming situation of insecurity that weighs on the Minova-Kalehe region. It is imperative to take rapid and effective measures to put an end to this violence and protect the innocent populations who are its first victims.
