“Le Salon des grandes dames”, an initiative of the NGO Congolese Women for Development (FECONDE), recently brought together a dozen women politicians engaged in Beni for an awareness-raising and reflection session on their political future. This meeting, which took place on November 16, allowed participants to assess the challenges they face in the electoral process and to discuss issues related to women’s participation in politics.
Julie Njila Nkuna, coordinator of the NGO, stressed the importance of this initiative which aims to support and accompany women politicians in Beni in their commitment. The discussions focused in particular on the new challenges of political dynamics in the region, fundraising and the involvement of women in the Luanda peace process.
The main objective of this salon was to encourage women politicians to assert themselves and make themselves heard during the upcoming elections. Julie Njila praised the commitment of women in Beni in politics, emphasizing their determination to contribute to the management of public affairs. She recalled that the year 2024 will be a pivotal period after the elections, and stressed the importance of preparing women to hold positions at the local and municipal levels.
This meeting made it possible to assess the challenges faced by women politicians during their electoral campaigns, as well as the effectiveness of the actions of the government and political parties in favor of women. With a new agenda in place, it is possible that the election of women to positions of responsibility will become a reality in Beni.
In conclusion, the “Salon des grandes dames” proved to be a valuable space for dialogue and sharing for women politicians in Beni. This initiative contributes to strengthening their commitment, supporting them in their actions and promoting greater participation of women in the local and national political sphere.
