Road traffic tax in Maniema: A lever for provincial development

**Road tax in Maniema: A challenge for provincial development**

The province of Maniema recently implemented a road tax, under the leadership of Vice-Governor Corneille Katisamba Makubuli. This measure aims to finance the rehabilitation of local roads, which are essential to the economic and social development of the region. Motorcyclists and truckers are affected by this tax, the amount of which varies depending on the type of vehicle.

The provincial Minister of Transport, Oleko Lungundu, specified that the amounts of the tax amount to 1,500 Congolese francs for two-tire motorcycles, 2,500 for three-tire motorcycles and 5,000 for trucks. This tax, although necessary to improve road infrastructure, has provoked mixed reactions among the population.

Some citizens, such as Songolo Babin, see this tax as an investment in the future of the province. According to him, the money collected should be used transparently for the construction and maintenance of roads, including agricultural roads. An optimistic vision that calls for responsible management of public funds by local authorities.

However, others express concerns about the amount of the tax. Taxi drivers, for example, believe that the rates set are too high and could impact their income. Some therefore suggest a reduction in the amounts to facilitate payment and thus support their economic activity.

The Minister of Transport stressed that periodic assessments will be carried out to adjust, if necessary, the amount of the tax. This approach will ensure a fair distribution of costs between road stakeholders, while ensuring the sustainability of financing infrastructure works.

In conclusion, the implementation of this road traffic tax represents a major challenge for Maniema in terms of development. While it can help improve traffic conditions and boost the local economy, it is essential that its management is transparent and fair to benefit the entire population. Effective cooperation between authorities and citizens will be essential to ensure the success of this initiative and ensure a prosperous future for the province.
