Fatshimétrie: Engaging Congo towards a sustainable future

Fatshimétrie, a new approach for a sustainable Congo

The creation of the network of provincial assemblies for nature conservation in the Democratic Republic of Congo marks an important step in the preservation of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable development. More than just an initiative, it is a real commitment to nature and future generations.

This network, launched during a meeting in Kindu, aims to support the Lomami National Park and the Sankuru Nature Reserve in their environmental protection missions. The objective is to ensure harmonious cohabitation between site managers and local communities, in order to preserve the natural wealth of these regions.

The representatives of the provincial assemblies of Maniema, Sankuru and Tshopo have committed to working together for the conservation of nature. This strengthened collaboration will make it possible to implement concrete actions in favor of the preservation of biodiversity and the fight against poaching.

The importance of nature conservation was highlighted by Lambert Makondjo, President of the Sankuru Provincial Assembly, who called for a real change in attitude and a real commitment to the environment. It is essential that nature protection becomes a collective concern, involving all local and regional stakeholders.

Mateus Kanga, President of the Tshopo Provincial Assembly, insisted on the need for peace and collaboration to rebuild and develop the region. He stressed the importance of investment in environmental preservation to attract new partners and foster economic development.

Finally, Léopold Longonga Impame, Sector Chief of Balanga, called for concerted and coordinated action by all stakeholders. Working in synergy and pooling efforts are essential to ensure the success of this initiative and ensure a sustainable future for the region.

This network of provincial nature conservation assemblies in the DRC is a unique opportunity to mobilize the country’s vital forces in favor of environmental preservation. It demonstrates the willingness of local authorities to take concrete action to protect nature and ensure a better future for generations to come. This initiative should serve as an example and be extended to all provinces of the DRC, in order to strengthen the protection of biodiversity on a national scale.
