NEPAD and Egypt united for Africa’s development

The assistance of initiatives such as NEPAD is crucial to fostering Africa’s economic development. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expressed his gratitude to NEPAD for its support to Egypt’s presidency of this African program aimed at achieving this goal.

NEPAD, acronym for New Partnership for Africa’s Development, led by Egypt, will benefit from an increase in financial resources needed to implement crucial infrastructure projects on the continent. During a meeting with NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Mostafa Madbouly stressed the importance of taking action to support NEPAD’s ten-year plan in the next stage, through financial support from donor countries.

Egypt also supports efforts to establish NEPAD regional offices and a Cairo-based African Center of Excellence for Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts (ACECCRA), the Prime Minister said. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, for her part, expressed gratitude for Egypt’s continued support for NEPAD. She stressed the importance of taking action to implement NEPAD programs by communicating with relevant African countries, noting that she looks forward to collaborating with Egypt in this regard.

Bekele-Thomas also discussed efforts to establish a new development fund to help NEPAD implement its projects, something that Madbouly believes should not add new financial constraints to African countries. She also stressed the importance of coordinating African efforts to maximize the benefits of the various initiatives.

This meeting between Egypt and NEPAD marks a significant step towards enhanced collaboration for Africa’s development. These joint actions aim to support the continent’s economic growth and strengthen its resilience to current challenges, including those related to climate change. It is essential that African countries join forces to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by initiatives such as NEPAD.
