Congolese Civil Society Forces Vives: Guardian of Democracy and National Unity

In a context marked by security challenges and the pressing need for development, Congolese civil society, represented by the Forces vives entity, is establishing itself as an essential and committed actor for peace and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The coordinations of the 26 provinces of the country have reaffirmed their determination to work for the general interest and to counter the threats weighing on the nation.

During a recent meeting in Kinshasa, Jean Bosco Lalo, spokesperson for this citizen structure, highlighted the legacy and crucial role of civil society in the history of the country. Indeed, past actions, such as the march of February 16, 1992 led by the CLC, have demonstrated the capacity of civil society to mobilize and act to defend democratic rights and values.

Faced with current issues, the debate on a possible change to the constitution is divisive and worrying. The Head of State expressed his desire to reform the fundamental law, but the civil society Forces vives is firmly opposed to this idea. For them, any modification of the constitution would be an affront to past sacrifices for unity and democracy in the DRC.

Jean Bosco Lalo clearly indicated that civil society does not seek political power, but acts to preserve democratic achievements and prevent any authoritarian drift. His message is clear: protect democratic values, preserve the unity of the country and guarantee a better future for future generations.

During this meeting, several civil society actors shared their experiences and actions in favor of democracy and development. Among them, Mgr Donatien Shole, Father Rigobert Minani, Jean Baptiste Ndundu, Crispin Nlanda, Dany Singoma, and Dieudonne Mushagalusa, stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and committed to the defense of republican values.

Ultimately, the civil society Forces vives embodies the hope and strength of democracy in the DRC. His unwavering commitment to peace, security and respect for democratic values deserves to be commended and supported. It is through this citizen mobilization and collective will that the DRC will be able to overcome its challenges and build a better future for all.
