In a major development for Egypt’s tourism industry, Al Alamein and Sohag airports have recently been granted international status, marking a significant step in improving safety standards and passenger services. The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that Borg El Arab and Luxor airports have also been upgraded to serve this new international purpose.
During a certificate presentation ceremony, Eng. Ayman Arab, Chairman of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, accompanied by several officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, witnessed the presentation of the licenses. Amr El-Sharkawi, Director of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, handed over the licenses to Ahmed Mansour, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Corporation.
Obtaining these certificates is part of the civil aviation sector’s commitment to comply with all the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the regulations issued by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority.
In this context, Samy Hifny confirmed that the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority’s licenses to El Alamein and Sohag International Airports, as well as the renewal of the licenses of Borg El Arab and Luxor International Airports, are a new step forward in the Egyptian airport system. This also demonstrates the capabilities and skills that Egyptian airports have in terms of technical and human personnel, as well as their operational efficiency, infrastructure, logistical capabilities and the services offered to travelers. This also highlights the continuous efforts of employees to improve and develop the level of services offered at Egyptian airports, as well as their commitment to continue their work and excellence in performance, with the aim of adopting the best operational practices and ensuring the required competitiveness at the regional and international levels.
Hifny added that the granting of a permanent license by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority to airports as international airports, renewed periodically after meeting the inspections required by the authority, confirms that these airports comply with all international conditions, regulations and standards adopted by the authority to approve the operation of Egyptian airports as international airports, as is the case in all airports around the world.
