Spain in shock: the consequences of the devastating floods in the east of the country

Headline of “Fatshimetrie”: Mass disappearances after catastrophic floods in eastern Spain

Eastern Spain has been hit by terrible floods that have left dozens of people missing. Indeed, the Valencia region received a year’s worth of rain in one day, causing devastating flash floods.

Spanish authorities have intensified searches along the coast for the missing. Luis Arrieta, head of the Marine Civil Guard unit in Valencia, said teams were working from dawn to dusk to try to save lives.

“We are mainly carrying out maritime patrols to search for and rescue possible people linked to this disastrous event,” Arrieta explained. “We are carrying out patrols along the entire coast, mainly from the mouth of the Turia Channel to Cape Cullera, and even a little further south to the mouth of the Júcar River.”

The Spanish Prime Minister has deployed thousands of soldiers to the Valencia region to help the affected populations.

However, residents are expressing anger at what they see as an inadequate response from the authorities. Many testimonies also highlight the lateness of flood warnings.

The current death toll is over 200 people as a result of the floods, and this number could unfortunately rise.

Images of the devastating floods in eastern Spain have sparked outrage and compassion across the country. The consequences of this natural disaster suggest dark days ahead for the local communities, who have been hit hard by this tragedy.

Let us remain united in these difficult times, and hope that the relief operations will help to find missing people and provide essential support to those affected.
