Prince William strengthens ties with South Africa during landmark visit

Prince William recently visited South Africa, where he met the South African President and conservationists and rangers during a walk in Table Mountain National Park. The visit was described by the South African Presidency as a symbol of the strong ties between the United Kingdom, including the Royal Family, and South Africa, and as a further step towards strengthening these historic ties.

It is worth noting that the Prince of Wales has been visiting South Africa for several days to attend the awards ceremony for his annual Earthshot Prize, which will take place on Wednesday. Launched four years ago, the prize aims to recognise innovations that tackle climate and environmental issues. Each winner receives $1.3 million to support their project.

This year’s finalists include the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance, which brings together indigenous nations to protect forests, and the Alton Dala Conservation Initiative, which helped save the Saiga antelope from extinction. Importantly, this is the first time the awards ceremony will be held on the African continent.

In addition, Prince William will also attend a wildlife summit and other climate-focused engagements during his trip, marking his first visit to the African continent since 2018. The visit confirms the Prince’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and tackling global climate challenges.
