Strengthening the capacities of SAMIDRC in the DRC: A vital partnership between MONUSCO and SADC


The launching ceremony of the training of officers of the SADC Force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by MONUSCO in Goma marked an important milestone in efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of SAMIDRC in eastern DRC. This initiative is part of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2746, which calls for increased support from MONUSCO to the SADC force to improve its effectiveness on the ground.

The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the DRC, Vivian van de Perre, underlined the importance of this collaboration by symbolically handing over an armoured car and logistics containers to SAMIDRC. This first series of training for SAMIDRC officers will address crucial aspects such as human rights, international humanitarian law, child protection, protection of civilians, as well as conduct and discipline.

It is essential to emphasize that MONUSCO will continue to provide support to SAMIDRC in order to promote the stabilization of eastern DRC. Cooperation between these two entities is essential to ensure the security and protection of populations in a region marked by complex challenges.
