The water crisis in Kyaghala: a call to action to ensure sustainable access to a vital resource

The community of Kyaghala, a district of Bulengera commune in Butembo, is plunged into a serious drinking water shortage crisis. The inhabitants of this locality are faced with daily difficulties in accessing a resource as vital as water. The current situation, denounced by local civil society, reveals the urgency of intervening to guarantee access to clean water for more than 5,000 residents of this district.

The small water source currently available is the only means of supply for the population of Kyaghala. However, this source is far from sufficient to meet the water needs of thousands of inhabitants. In addition, the source is poorly maintained, exposing users to risks of contamination and waterborne diseases. The conditions of access to this resource are all the more worrying, especially for young girls who sometimes have to go there late at night, exposed to potential dangers.

Faced with this alarming situation, the president of the local civil society, John Paluku Kameta, calls on the authorities to take urgent measures. He stresses that the presence of displaced people coming to collect water is further aggravating the situation. For him, it is imperative to act quickly to guarantee access to safe drinking water for the entire population of Kyaghala.

Kyaghala, located on the border with the territory of Beni, is facing a serious problem that requires immediate intervention by the competent authorities. The inhabitants of this district deserve to have access to a fundamental resource such as drinking water in safe and appropriate conditions. It is essential to raise awareness on this issue and mobilize the necessary resources to resolve this crisis that is jeopardizing the health and well-being of thousands of people.

Together, by acting in a concerted manner and prioritizing public health, it is possible to overcome this water shortage in Kyaghala and guarantee equitable and sustainable access to this vital resource for all its inhabitants. The challenges are many, but with collective will and concrete actions, it is possible to transform this emergency situation into an opportunity to strengthen drinking water supply infrastructure and improve the quality of life of the Kyaghala community.
