**Fatshimetrie: Flood victims of Lake Albert call for emergency aid**
For several days, the shores of Lake Albert in the territory of Djugu, in Ituri, have been the scene of a devastating rise in water levels. More than 900 homes have been invaded by the floods, leaving entire families homeless. The situation is critical and the victims are calling for emergency assistance to deal with this natural disaster.
According to testimonies collected on site, the waters of Lake Albert have overflowed and spread into the fishing camps, destroying everything in their path. Hundreds of victims have taken refuge at the Nyamusasi displaced persons site in Tchomia, imploring the authorities and humanitarian organizations to come to their aid.
The distressing images of submerged homes, belongings washed away by the waters and entire families forced to live in makeshift tents arouse emotion and solidarity. The vice-president of the Nyamusasi IDP site, Biwaga Espérance, underlines the urgency of the situation: “The displaced people are suffering enormously. Some no longer have shelter and have nothing to eat. We need immediate intervention from the authorities to provide food and emergency shelter”.
This disaster comes on top of a series of floods that have already affected the surrounding territories for almost two years. The inhabitants of Djugu, Mahagi and Irumu are facing considerable damage, with hundreds of houses and fishing equipment destroyed by the waters of Lake Albert.
Faced with this emergency situation, it is imperative that local and national authorities mobilize the necessary resources to help the victims. It is time for solidarity and compassion towards these bereaved families who have lost everything. It is time to act, support and protect those who are most vulnerable to the vagaries of nature.
Together, hand in hand, we can overcome this ordeal and help these victims regain hope and dignity. It is time for action, generosity and solidarity. The victims of Lake Albert are counting on us, let us not let them down.
