Fatshimetrie, November 1, 2024 – Women’s solidarity is expressed through remarkable assistance to the health system in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, a women’s association has actively engaged in improving the health conditions of the populations of Fizi and Uvira, in the province of South Kivu.
This commendable initiative includes various action components, ranging from the payment of health providers’ bonuses to the construction, rehabilitation and equipment of health infrastructure, including the regular supply of medicines and medical supplies. It is also a question of supporting the rehabilitation of roads and taking care of the health of vulnerable children, exposed to malnutrition and other diseases.
The Association of Women for the Promotion and Endogenous Development (AFPDE) makes it a point of honor to strengthen access to drinking water and sanitation. This is evidenced by the installation of solar pumps in several localities, allowing communities to have a safe and secure water supply.
These actions take on their full meaning in a context marked by decades of conflicts and humanitarian crises, deeply weakening the population of this region of the DRC. The consequences of these troubles are materialized by the destruction of infrastructure, natural disasters and human rights violations, exacerbating the vulnerability of the inhabitants.
It is crucial to emphasize that these humanitarian assistance efforts must not obscure the need to invest in basic services in the long term. Indeed, responding to immediate needs while working on the sustainability of actions is essential to building a better future for the affected communities.
Thus, through their concrete commitment to the health and well-being of local populations, the women of AFPDE demonstrate the strength of solidarity and the ability to act positively in the face of the most pressing challenges. Their exemplary action deserves to be recognized and supported, because it embodies the hope for a fairer and healthier future for all.
