The inauguration of Ibom Towers marked a significant milestone in the bipartisan collaboration between Lagos and Akwa Ibom states in Nigeria. The event, which was presided over by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including former Akwa Ibom State Governors Udom Emmanuel and Obong Victor Attah.
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom hailed the partnership as a major step towards financial stabilization, noting that the tower is intended to generate revenue and employment. According to him, the project not only symbolises economic unity but also illustrates how visionary investments can shape the prosperity of the state and the country.
Strategically located in the heart of Lagos, Ibom Towers will provide high-end living options and contribute to revenue generation through property rentals and tourism, boosting the economies of both states.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was enthusiastic, positioning Lagos as the commercial hub of Nigeria and viewing the project as an extension of that role. He even joked that he might consider investing in an oil well in Akwa Ibom, expressing optimism about the joint initiative.
The Managing Director of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Imo-Abasi Jacob, highlighted the potential of the project, describing it as an iconic location for urban professionals. Ibom Towers will feature luxury apartments, gyms, swimming pools and smart technology, providing both a prestigious living space and a source of economic growth.
For his part, the Oba of Oniru, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal, expressed his support, celebrating the collaborative effort as a legacy of the Lagos-Akwa Ibom relationship. Traditional rulers, including Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, President General of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Traditional Rulers, also hailed the initiative for enhancing Akwa Ibom’s international reputation and providing hands-on experience for young engineers.
Ultimately, the inauguration of Ibom Towers is more than just a ceremonial event. It embodies a symbol of economic unity and strategic vision, testifying to the ability of Nigerian states to collaborate across political divides to shape a prosperous and innovative future.
