Raising awareness of Mpox disease in the DRC through effective communication materials

Communication materials are an essential tool in raising awareness and preventing diseases in communities. Indeed, these visual means play a crucial role in disseminating clear and precise information to promote public health. It is with this in mind that the international NGO JHPIEGO recently handed over posters and leaflets to the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (Cousp) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, with the aim of strengthening the understanding of Mpox disease among the population.

Mpox disease is a major public health issue in the DRC, and preventing its spread is of paramount importance. The communication materials offered by JHPIEGO provide essential information on the disease, how to protect yourself against it, the importance of vaccination, as well as general information on this pathology. These tools aim to raise awareness among the population and provide them with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves and prevent the disease.

Dr. Christian Ngandu, Coordinator of Cousp, highlighted the importance of this JHPIEGO initiative, highlighting the crucial role of risk communication and community engagement in the fight against Mpox disease. He also expressed his gratitude to the NGO for its continued support and involvement in improving understanding of the disease within communities.

The Senior Program Coordinator at JHPIEGO, Ms. Ange Tiline, highlighted that communication plays a key role in the response to Mpox disease, and that the awareness materials are an important contribution of the organization to the efforts of INSP and Cousp. These tools are designed to inform and educate the population about the disease, its modes of transmission, means of prevention, and the importance of vaccination.

In short, this JHPIEGO initiative demonstrates the organization’s commitment to supporting public health efforts in the DRC by increasing awareness and prevention of infectious diseases such as Mpox. These communication materials will help improve understanding of the disease within communities and promote positive health behaviors to combat its spread.
