Fatshimetrie, October 31, 2024. Yesterday, a celebration in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Algerian revolution of November 1, 1954 took place in a warm setting in Kinshasa. The event was marked by patriotic songs, videos highlighting Algeria’s tourist attractions and infrastructural advances.
Many distinguished guests took part in the reception, including senior Congolese officials, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Algerian community in the DRC, journalists and representatives of civil society. The atmosphere was both festive and solemn, paying tribute to the heroes who sacrificed themselves for Algeria’s independence.
The Algerian Ambassador to Kinshasa, Mr. Mohamed Yazid Bouzid, delivered a speech filled with pride and gratitude to the freedom fighters. He recalled the importance of this revolution which not only liberated Algeria, but also inspired other decolonization movements around the world.
He highlighted Algeria’s emblematic role in the fight against colonialism and its commitment to oppressed peoples. Mentioning in particular the issue of Western Sahara and the occupied territories in Palestine, the Ambassador highlighted Algeria’s position in favor of the rights of peoples to self-determination.
In this period of global upheaval and violence, the Ambassador highlighted Algeria’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He stressed the country’s commitment to international peace and security, while denouncing the violations of international legality and the persistent violence in many regions of the world.
