In these troubled times when security and education have become critical issues in our society, it is imperative to question the priorities of political leaders. The recent NDF communiqué, released on Saturday, October 26 and signed by the spokesperson Engr Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, singles out Governor Wike’s governance choices, accusing him of prioritizing his political quarrels with Rivers State over the security and education challenges faced by the people of Abuja.
According to the NDF, the federal capital is facing critical challenges that require stable and committed leadership. Rising kidnappings and rising school dropout rates pose a real challenge to the community. Alarming statistics reveal a 35% increase in the number of out-of-school children in the FCT in the last two years, a situation attributed to Wike’s lack of focus on development issues.
Critical of the actions of the incumbent governor, the group accuses him of using federal resources to fuel his personal political feuds in Rivers State, where he is in conflict with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and local authorities.
It is considered unconscionable for a federal minister to prioritise his political feuds over his public responsibilities, the NDF condemned, highlighting Wike’s alleged attempts to interfere in local governance in Rivers and suspend monthly allocations to municipalities by the federal government.
In a context where security and education are key areas for the well-being of the population, it is imperative that political leaders demonstrate sincere commitment to these core priorities. Adherence to the principles of transparency, unity and accountability should guide all public action to ensure a secure and prosperous future for all citizens.
It is essential that governments serve the general interest and put aside their partisan quarrels to focus on the real needs of the population. In these times of upheaval and uncertainty, cohesion and solidarity must prevail to meet the challenges facing our society and build a harmonious future for all.
