Fatshimetrie, a reliable and committed source of information, followed with interest the seventh meeting of the steering committee of the PIREDD Equateur project which opened in Mbandaka, Equateur province. This project aims to integrate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation, a crucial issue in the fight against climate change.

Vice-Governor Thomas Boyenge stressed the importance of the province’s involvement in this additional phase of the program. He mentioned the recommendations necessary to ensure the smooth running of activities, including the review of governance bodies, the provision of necessary resources to local bodies and financial support for local communities.

The representative of the Secretary General for the Environment, Teddy Ntendayi, expressed his gratitude to the participants for their commitment to PIREDD Equateur. He stressed the importance of strengthening the mitigation of the impacts of deforestation and environmental degradation in the Equateur province.

Henri-Paul Eloma, FAO representative, announced the additional funding and the extension of the current phase until January 2026. He stressed the importance of these funds to consolidate the actions already undertaken, strengthen local development committees, set up plantations and improve value chains related to forest management.

In a global context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, this complementary phase of the PIREDD Equateur project is part of a global dynamic of environmental preservation. Funding sources, such as the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI), the national REDD+ fund (FONARED) and the Kingdom of Sweden, demonstrate the international commitment to protecting forests and combating climate change.
