Postponement of the alleged coup case: New development at the Kinshasa-Gombe military court

Fatshimetrie, 27 October 2024. The Kinshasa-Gombe military court has postponed until 28 October the examination of the case involving the alleged coup incident of 19 May, during an appeal session held at the Ndolo military prison in northern Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The president of the Kinshasa/Gombe military court, Kilensele Muke, said: “The Court has decided to adjourn the case contradictorily to the hearing of Monday 28 October 2024, in order to allow the prosecution to respond to the arguments presented by the defence of the accused Thomson Taylor.”

The lawyer for the accused, Taylor Christ Thomson, Me Kwatangulu, pleaded for the Court to disregard the prosecution’s accusations that his client had piloted the drone. He stressed that these allegations had been made without prior consultation with his client.

During this hearing, Mr. Kwatangulu stated that Thomson Taylor categorically rejected the accusations brought against him by the public prosecutor.

It should be noted that of the 37 defendants present at the hearing, only three were heard by the Kinshasa-Gombe military court as part of this appeal.

These individuals, sentenced to death by the Kinshasa-Gombe garrison military court, are accused by the public prosecutor of having attempted to overthrow the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo by attacking the Palais de la Nation, one of the presidential residences located in the north of Kinshasa, on the night of May 18 to 19, 2024.

Fatshimetrie thus offers a new overview of the current situation in Congo, where justice is seeking to shed light on this significant event of the year 2024, worrying both the authorities and the population. The anticipation of what will happen next remains palpable as the Kinshasa-Gombe Military Court prepares the next stage of this complex case.
