France provides essential aid to fight M-POX epidemic in DRC

Fatshimetrie, October 25, 2024 (FT).- The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a major health crisis with the spread of the M-POX epidemic in the Goma region, in the east of the country. To support local efforts and meet urgent medical needs, the French association ‘Tulipe’ recently provided 70 trunks of general, pediatric and emergency medicines to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) active on the ground.

This act of solidarity is part of France’s humanitarian aid to the DRC, which is providing essential resources to strengthen response capacities in the face of the crisis. The trunks of medicines were handed over to partner NGOs CDCS Alima, Première Urgence Internationale and the French Red Cross, who are working tirelessly to support local populations affected by the M-POX epidemic.

In addition, France has committed €22 million in 2024 to support the United Nations and NGOs operating in the DRC, in order to meet the essential needs of the most vulnerable populations. These funds will ensure access to water and sanitation, guarantee food security, strengthen maternal and child health, and provide assistance to displaced persons in the Goma region and its surroundings.

This humanitarian initiative underlines France’s continued commitment to the Congolese populations affected by the crisis, and demonstrates the international solidarity needed to address the complex health and humanitarian challenges facing the country. While the situation remains worrying, it is imperative to continue cooperation efforts to stem the spread of the M-POX epidemic and provide concrete support to the most vulnerable communities.

In these times of crisis, solidarity and international collaboration are essential values to ensure an effective and sustainable response to the humanitarian challenges facing the people of the DRC. This act of generosity on the part of France illustrates the common desire to fight together against health crises and to support populations in need.
