Fatshimetrie, October 23, 2024 (ACP). An inspiring initiative has emerged in Uvira, a city located in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, 60 young U-reporters were recently sensitized to work as volunteers as part of a campaign called “U-action”, supported by UNICEF. These young people, involved in solving social problems in their community, play a crucial role by informing local authorities and acting as community relays.
The administrator of the Human Rights Observatory within the U-reporters, Jean Kami, underlines the importance of this approach. According to him, young U-reporters face various social challenges, such as health problems like Mpox and cholera, as well as educational and infrastructure issues. These difficulties are carefully analyzed in order to propose appropriate solutions, thus helping to improve the quality of services offered to the local population.
The feedback from the beneficiaries of this platform is also very positive. Constant Aganze, one of the young U-reporters, testifies to the personal benefits he gained from this experience. He emphasizes in particular having developed his skills in public speaking, thus integrating the theory learned at school into the professional world.
The U-report community, created by UNICEF, embodies the commitment of young people to positive change in the face of social challenges, particularly in the areas of health and education. This voluntary and civic collaboration demonstrates the importance of involving young people in solving problems in their community, and highlights their ability to make a real social impact.
In short, the “U-action” initiative in Uvira is a fine example of the commitment of young people to a more just and united society. These U-reporters, through their dedication and voluntary work, actively contribute to improving the living conditions of their community and promoting values of solidarity and mutual aid. A great lesson in citizenship and altruism for all to ponder.
