Historic promotion of the DGDA in Kalemie: A turning point for the development of Tanganyika


Fatshimetrie, October 23, 2024 – The news has just broken: the sub-directorate of the Customs and Excise Directorate (DGDA) in Kalemie, in the Tanganyika province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been elevated to the status of provincial directorate. An announcement that follows a hearing at the Provincial Assembly and was welcomed by all local stakeholders.

It was Tchito Ilembwa, first provincial director of the DGDA in Kalemie, who confirmed the good news during his speech: “We had taken the plea of ​​the Provincial Assembly of Tanganyika to the authorities of the DGDA, and we finally received a positive response. The sub-directorate of the DGDA of Tanganyika is now a provincial directorate independent of the former provincial directorate of Haut-Katanga”.

This promotion will allow greater decision-making autonomy at the local level and strengthen the capacity to mobilize revenue. Economic operators in the region will thus be able to benefit from more adapted and responsive customs services. This development marks an important turning point for Tanganyika and is part of a dynamic of regional development.

The President of the Provincial Assembly, Cyril Kimpu Awel, welcomed this progress and stressed the importance of the advocacy led by the Governor of Tanganyika to achieve this result. He also expressed his wish to see other public services follow this example, in order to strengthen the autonomy and efficiency of local administrations.

This new provincial directorate of the DGDA in Kalemie thus opens up new perspectives for the economic and social development of the region.
