Urgent call for an immediate ceasefire to save civilians in Gaza

In the current context of events in Gaza, the humanitarian situation has become increasingly worrying, highlighting the terrible suffering endured by Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip. UN aid workers in northern Gaza are reporting an unprecedented crisis, highlighting the inability to find food, water or medical care due to the relentless bombardment by Israel.

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, has reported the horrific conditions faced by UNRWA staff on the ground, where hundreds of thousands of people are facing a desperate humanitarian situation. Residents find themselves isolated, without hope, living in constant fear of death, as incidents of violence increase in the area.

Reports have revealed that Palestinian civilians fleeing Israeli bombardment zones are being targeted during their evacuation, further accentuating the tragedy unfolding before our eyes. The streets are strewn with bodies, the screams of the wounded echo in a deafening silence, and fear has gripped the inhabitants who have no choice but to survive hour by hour.

In this climate of terror and desolation, Philippe Lazzarini is launching an urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire, even if it only lasts a few hours, to allow families to leave the area safely and reach safer places. The humanitarian emergency is glaring, the basic needs of the civilian population must be met, and access to vital medical assistance must be guaranteed.

Faced with this humanitarian crisis that continues to worsen, it is imperative that the international community act urgently to put an end to this escalation of violence and protect innocent civilians caught in the trap of this devastating conflict. Now is the time for compassion, solidarity and action to save lives and bring some semblance of hope to the people of Gaza, who deserve a better future, far from the ravages of war and suffering.
