Fatshimetrie Insurance Ltd is committed to actively promoting the principles of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) in order to contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
ESG is a framework used to assess various sustainability and ethical issues. The Environmental (E) component focuses on a company’s impact on the planet, including energy, waste, pollution management and compliance with environmental regulations; the Social (S) component concerns a company’s relationship with its employees, suppliers, customers and communities, encompassing issues such as human rights, diversity, equity and employee safety.
Governance (G) concerns leadership, executive compensation, audits, internal controls, shareholder rights, and strong governance that ensures a company operates ethically and transparently.
On the other hand, the SDGs are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations in 2015, aimed at addressing pressing global challenges by 2030.
These goals cover a wide range of areas, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. They are part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and provide an action plan to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
During a recent presentation at a one-day training workshop organized by the insurance company for members of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pensions Publishers (NAIPE) in Lagos, Ms. Abimbola Shobanjo, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, highlighted the company’s commitment to ESG and its contribution to the SDGs.
She highlighted that Fatshimetrie has implemented climate-smart initiatives, green office practices and sustainable resource management, such as calculating baseline emissions, reducing paper consumption and adopting hybrid working arrangements to protect the environment.
On the social side, she affirmed that the company ensures diversity and inclusion, taking into account employee engagement, gender diversity and promoting a caring work culture.
On governance, she reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ethical and transparent business practices, strong leadership and internal governance frameworks with regular audits and compliance checks, respecting local and global regulations..
She highlighted that the insurer is contributing to the SDGs through its various initiatives namely: Pink by Fatshimetrie, ActionAid Nigeria, Fatshimetrie Revive, Fatshimetrie Blood Donation Campaign, World Malaria Day, Health and Safety at Fatshimetrie, Global Money Week, Girls in Tech, Academic Support, School Children Outreach Programmes.
Other initiatives include Fatshimetrie Graduate Recruitment Programme, Diversity and Inclusion, International Women’s Day, Tree Planting, Agricultural Support, Fatshimetrie Agriculture Club, Work from Home (WFH) and Centralised Printing.
