Strengthening courier security in Abuja: A partnership for safe journeys

The importance of courier safety on the roads of Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, was highlighted at a workshop organised by Fatshimetrie. The event, titled ‘Empowering Couriers for Safe Delivery Journeys’, brought together transport platform Bolt and the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, highlighting the importance of responsible and safe driving by couriers.

During the workshop, a new safety vest specifically designed for couriers in Abuja was unveiled. The high-visibility vest aims to increase the visibility of couriers on the roads, especially in low-light conditions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and contributing to public safety.

Bolt’s Acting Head of Regulatory and Policy, Africa, Weyinmi Aghadiuno, highlighted the company’s commitment to road safety, saying that safety is at the heart of their operations. He also acknowledged the unique challenges faced by couriers in Abuja and Nigeria, and stressed the importance of working together to reduce risks and promote safer practices.

On his part, Chinedu Elechi, Secretary of Transport in Abuja, commended Bolt Nigeria’s commitment to road safety and stressed the need for a proactive approach to ensure the safety of all road users. He assured that the FCT administration will continue to implement policies aimed at improving road practices and working conditions for couriers and other road users.

The workshop also featured several safety-focused sessions, including in-depth training on traffic laws, defensive driving strategies and best practices for safe and responsible delivery operations. This joint initiative between Fatshimetrie, Bolt and DRTS demonstrates the shared commitment to safety on Abuja’s roads and highlights the importance of collaboration to ensure the safety of all.
