Rehabilitation of the electrical network in Camp Luka, Kinshasa: a project that illuminates the future

As part of the project to rehabilitate the electricity network in the Camp Luka neighborhood in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, the National Electricity Company (Snel) recently conducted an assessment visit to assess the progress of the work. Under the leadership of its Director General, a delegation went on site to verify the progress made.

During this visit, the Director of Project Coordination/DFO, Michel Muamba Kanyinda, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the work. Indeed, the five electrical cabins planned for the rehabilitation have been restored, and the work to restart the low-voltage network is progressing as expected. This progress demonstrates the seriousness and efficiency of the teams in charge of the project.

The statistics collected reveal encouraging results, particularly in terms of the load of the Saint-Philippe cabin. Thanks to the installation of prepaid meters, the load has been significantly reduced, which has led to an increase in revenue. These data indicate a positive financial impact of the project.

On the socio-economic level, this project is expected to benefit nearly 600,000 people. The distribution of meters in the Saint-Philippe and Panzi cabins offers a prospect of improving access to electricity for the residents of the Camp Luka district. In addition, the construction of a new point of sale will strengthen the accessibility of electricity services for the local population.

Sogeac, the project management company, welcomes the progress made and remains determined to achieve its objectives. It calls on the population to play an active role in preserving the equipment made available to them in order to ensure the sustainability of the project. The efforts made to install the poles and renovate the cabins demonstrate Sogeac’s commitment to reliable and secure electricity distribution.

The positive impacts of this project are already noticeable in the Camp Luka district. Indeed, the reduction in insecurity and the improvement in the living conditions of the inhabitants are tangible signs of the positive impact of this initiative. The commitment of the government, in particular President Félix Tshisekedi, is materialized through this project which aims to improve the daily lives of citizens.

The realization of this project, financed by Snel to the tune of 9.6 million US dollars, demonstrates the authorities’ desire to guarantee stable access to electricity for the inhabitants of Kinshasa. With the prospect of adding new cabins to increase the service capacity, Snel is committed to meeting the growing electricity needs of the population, while respecting budgetary constraints.

In short, the rehabilitation of the electricity network in the Camp Luka neighborhood is a major project that illustrates the efforts made to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants. This initiative demonstrates the importance of access to electricity in the socio-economic development of a region and demonstrates the authorities’ willingness to meet the energy needs of the Congolese population.
