Fatshimetrie reports a tragedy that took place around 8pm in Onipepeye area, involving five occupants of a Mitsubishi Space Wagon.
According to information from the Ogun State Police, the accident resulted in the immediate death of the driver and a female passenger, while the three other occupants of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Emergency services quickly attended to the injured and transported them to a nearby hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgue for autopsy.
According to authorities, the Mitsubishi, which was coming from Sagamu towards Abeokuta, collided with a Mercedes truck that was parked on the side of the road due to a mechanical problem.
The driver of the Mitsubishi failed to notice the stationary vehicle in time, causing it to lose control and collide with the rear end. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Road Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene shortly after the accident, abandoning his vehicle on the road.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged drivers to exercise caution, especially at night, to avoid such avoidable tragedies.
