Mixed weather forecast in the Democratic Republic of Congo: what to expect this Friday

Kinshasa, October 17, 2024 – The weather forecast announced by the National Agency for Meteorology and Remote Sensing by Satellite (Mettelsat) for the coming Friday reflects a contrasting climatic situation in eleven provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cloudy skies accompanied by rain are expected in these regions, with extreme temperatures ranging from 19 °C in Goma and Bukavu, and a maximum of 32 °C in Ilebo.

According to Mettelsat, the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Tanganyika, Sankuru, Lomami, Kasai Oriental, Kasai Central, Kasai (Tshikapa), Haut-Lomami and Lualaba will experience precipitation. The provinces of Mai-Ndombe, Tshuapa, Equateur, Mongala, Sud-Ubangi, Tshopo, Maniema and Kasai (Ilebo) will also be affected by thunderstorms and rains.

In other regions, such as Kongo Central, cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms and rains are forecast, while Haut-Katanga is expected to experience cloudy skies with isolated rains.

In addition, similar weather conditions are expected in the city province of Kinshasa as well as in the provinces of Kwango, Kwilu (Kikwit and Bandundu), Nord-Ubangi, Bas-Uélé and Haut-Uélé. The highest temperature is expected in the province of Kasai (Ilebo) with 32°C, while westerly winds will blow on the city of Mbuji Mayi at a speed of 7 km/h.

Regarding rainfall, Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, as well as the provinces of Kwango and Kwilu (Kikwit) are expected to receive moderate rainfall with estimated amounts of water between 10 and 15 mm.
