Improving road safety in Kinshasa through intensive training on compliance with the highway code

Fatshimétrie, October 17, 2024 – An intensive training program has been set up in Kinshasa, aimed at strengthening the skills of motorcyclists and agents of the urban transport division in terms of compliance with the highway code. From October 16 to 17, these professionals benefited from a training seminar organized in Gombe, north of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The provincial Minister of Transport and Urban Mobility, Bob Amisso, expressed his willingness to provide motorcycle taxi drivers and urban transport agents with a refresher session focused on compliance with the highway code and changing mentalities. Its main objective is to transform participants into exemplary, trained and qualified drivers, capable of contributing to road safety and serving as an example to their peers.

With this in mind, the ministry plans to introduce a competition on the highway code as a prerequisite for obtaining a driving license. This measure aims to ensure that only competent drivers who respect traffic rules are allowed to drive on the roads of the DRC.

Furthermore, the provincial minister stressed the importance for participants to reduce the number of road accidents and traffic jams, wear safety helmets, be courteous to passengers and demonstrate morality towards everyone on the road. He counts on their involvement to promote responsible and safe driving in the city of Kinshasa.

Mardochée Kitona, president of the Tshangu Motorcyclists Association, welcomed this initiative of the provincial ministry, emphasizing the benefits that this training will bring to all motorcyclists in the city. The various modules covered during the seminar will allow participants to improve their driving practices and actively contribute to road safety.

In conclusion, this intensive training on compliance with the highway code is proving to be a crucial step in promoting a culture of road safety and compliance with the regulations in force. By investing in driver training and awareness, local authorities are demonstrating their commitment to the safety of all road users in Kinshasa.
