The annual Felabration festival, celebrating Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is in full swing in Lagos, offering music lovers an unforgettable experience at the New Afrika Shrine. This year, the event is themed “Look and Laugh” and brought together renowned artists for electrifying concerts.
The infectious energy of artists Skales, May D and Durella set the stage ablaze, keeping the audience dancing and grooving all night long. Durella belted out hits such as “Shayo”, “My Life” and “Wiskolowiska”, while May D delivered high-energy performances of “So Many Tinz”, “Gat Me High” and “Shayo”, among others.
Festival-goers at the unique event expressed their excitement at being able to witness their favourite artists perform live. Some, like Mr. Olumide Sumi, a student, shared their joy and highlighted the emotional impact of the evening. “I have never had the opportunity to see these artists live, I am completely excited by this experience which gives me chills. Finally, I can see Durella, Skales and May D in the flesh,” he said.
Yomi Talabi, accompanied by his brothers, highlighted the quality of the performances and the festive atmosphere of the festival. “The performances are exceptional, and we have been dancing since 7pm without wanting to leave. We are delighted with this opportunity and will be present for the events throughout the week,” he expressed.
For Bunmi Ishola, the importance of Felabration lies in promoting Afrobeats internationally and developing tourism in Lagos. “This annual event helps to maintain the exposure of Afrobeats to the international community and promotes tourism in Lagos State,” she stressed.
