Appointment of 21 Federal Commissioners in Nigeria: A New Chapter in Economic Governance

In a major development in Nigeria, twenty-one nominees have been confirmed by the Senate as Federal Commissioners for the Revenue Mobilization, Allowance and Taxation Commission (RMAFC). This confirmation follows the presentation and consideration of the report of the Joint Committee on National Planning and Economic and Financial Affairs for the Confirmation of Appointments of Federal Commissioners to the Revenue Mobilization, Allowance and Taxation Commission (RMAFC).

President Bola Tinubu had appointed 21 Federal Commissioners to the Revenue Mobilization, Allowance and Taxation Commission, pending their confirmation by the Senate. The appointments were disclosed in August 2024 by the former Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. These were then submitted in September 2024 for review by the Joint Committee on National Planning Affairs and Economic and Financial Affairs.

Among those confirmed by the Senate as Federal Commissioners are Linda Oti (Abia), Akpan Effiong (Akwa Ibom), Enefe Ekene (Anambra), Prof. Steve Ugba (Benue), Chief Eyonsa (Cross River), Aruviere Egharhevwe (Delta), Nduka Awuregu (Ebonyi), Victor Eboigbe (Edo), Wumi Ogunlola (Ekiti), Ozo O bodougo (Enugu), Kabir Mohammed Mashi (Katsina), Adamu Fanda (Kano), Professor Olusegun Kunle Wright (Lagos), Aliyu Abdulkadir (Nasarawa), Bako Shetima (Niger), Samuel Durojaye (Ogun), Nathaniel Adejutelegan (Ondo), Saad Ibrahim (Plateau), Modu-Aji Juluri (Yobe), Bello Garba (Zamfara) and Mohammed Usman (Gombe).

In his address, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urged the new Commissioners to give their best in the missions that await them. He also encouraged them to be good ambassadors for their states and country.
