PDP Governors United to Strengthen Party Unity and Resilience

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met in a crucial meeting in 2024 to discuss tensions within the National Executive Committee (NWC) of the party. Chaired by Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, who is also the Governor of Bauchi State, the virtual session proved to be a major turning point for the future of the party.

During the two-day meeting, the governors, after consultation with the Board of Trustees and other organs of the party, stressed the importance of unity within the NWC. They made a strong appeal to all members to return to a state of unity by immediately lifting all suspensions issued against officials within the NWC.

The joint statement made it clear: “The party organs have been cautious in addressing issues, especially those related to the ongoing legal disputes. The NWC should return to a state of unity and remain united in the interest of the party and the nation.”

It was further emphasized that there is no faction within the party, and members were urged not to exaggerate petty disputes. The governors reminded office holders of their responsibility to serve and strengthen the party in line with the vision of the founders.

The meeting was attended by several key governors of the party, among whom were prominent figures such as Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohammed (Bauchi State), Sir Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State), Senator Douye Diri (Bayelsa State), Mr. Godwin Obaseki (Edo State) and other prominent personalities.

The joint statement underscores the commitment of the PDP to resolve internal conflicts and strengthen cohesion to meet the political challenges ahead. This historic meeting marked a crucial turning point in the trajectory of the PDP’s unity and resilience in the face of current challenges.

In a constantly evolving political context, it is essential that political parties like the PDP put in place robust mechanisms for resolving internal conflicts, strengthen their unity and focus on common goals, in order to best serve the interests of the people and the nation.
