The urgent need to regulate private medical clinics in Egypt

The recent closure of a dermatological and venereal disease clinic in the eastern part of Cairo for non-compliance with licensing requirements highlights a critical issue in the health sector in Egypt. This decision, taken as part of the second phase of the inspection campaign of medical institutions, raises critical questions about the regulation and supervision of private clinics in the country.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, stressed the importance of this action aimed at ensuring the health and safety of patients. According to him, the violations observed in this clinic, including the illegal practice of medicine without a license and the employment of unqualified foreign workers, endanger public health. In addition, the discovery of contraband and unregistered medicines raises major concerns about the origin and quality of the treatments administered.

The head of the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Curative Institutions and Licensing, Hesham Zaki, stressed the need for increased monitoring of private medical institutions. He stressed the importance of these institutions complying with infection control standards, employing qualified medical personnel, and complying with appropriate licensing requirements.

This action comes within the framework of the Ministry of Health and Population’s desire to strengthen the control of private medical facilities, ensuring that they comply with the required health standards and that their personnel obtain the necessary licenses. Reviewing the validity of medicines and applying disciplinary measures in the event of detected violations are among the priorities of this inspection program.

The initiative of this inspection campaign carried out in all governorates aims to improve the quality of health services, eliminate gaps in the provision of medical care, and ensure direct communication with citizens. These efforts aim to strengthen public confidence in the health sector and promote high standards of medical care.

In conclusion, the closure of the dermatological and venereal clinic in Cairo highlights the critical importance of monitoring and regulating medical facilities in Egypt. This action demonstrates the commitment of the Ministry of Health and Population to ensuring the health and safety of patients, while ensuring the quality of medical care provided in the country.
