Joint Review of the Education and Training Sector Strategy in the DRC 2024
From September 16 to 19, 2024, a momentous event took place in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Key stakeholders in the education sector gathered to participate in the creation of a new post-2025 strategic plan. This historic moment was part of the Joint Review of the Education and Training Sector Strategy for the period 2016-2025.
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, the objective of this meeting was to conduct an in-depth review of the Congolese education system, highlighting its weaknesses, opportunities, and ambitions. The time had come to seriously consider the developments needed to take education in the DRC to new heights.
One of the central questions that emerged from these discussions was: Does the DRC’s education system need to change? If so, what types of changes should be made to boost and improve education in the country?
The answer to these crucial questions lies in the desire to rethink and fundamentally transform the education system. It is time to question traditional educational practices and adapt them to the needs and challenges of the 21st century. The stakes are high: it is about training Congolese youth so that they can meet the challenges of tomorrow, and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all.
Among the avenues of reflection that emerged during these discussions, we can cite the need to rethink school curricula to make them more relevant and adapted to local and international realities. It is also crucial to strengthen educational infrastructure, improve teacher training and promote pedagogical innovation.
In short, the Joint Review of the Education and Training Sector Strategy in the DRC in 2024 marks an important turning point in the history of Congolese education. It is an opportunity to rethink and build a better future for future generations, by placing education at the heart of the country’s economic and social development. There is still a long way to go, but the commitment and determination of education sector stakeholders are the keys to the success of this ambitious undertaking.
