Fatshimetrie, October 13, 2024 – The pulse of the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, beats to the rhythm of the modernization work on Kivu Avenue, known colloquially as “Wenze”. After a prolonged pause due to a lack of funding, work has recently resumed to breathe new life into this emblematic artery of the commune of Kintambo.
Engineer Patrick Nakoso, in charge of the construction team, confirmed that work has resumed vigorously. Initiated in 2023 in partnership with Chinese engineers, the current developments focus on the embankment and soil test boring, a crucial step before compaction. These tests are carried out in order to avoid any unforeseen events related to the imminent rainy season, thus ensuring the solidity and durability of the future concrete pavement that will be laid along the avenue.
The Crec7 company, supervised by the Office des Voiries et Drainage (OVD), is working to connect Kasa-Vubu and Bangala avenues via Kwamouth avenue, with the main objective of improving the flow of road traffic in the region. The inhabitants of the commune of Kintambo expressed their satisfaction with the resumption of work, also praising the quality of the developments previously carried out for the rehabilitation of Kwamouth avenue, connecting Kasa-Vubu and Lukengo avenues.
Beyond these road renovations, the inhabitants of the Lubudi Nganda district also expressed a crucial need: the construction of a market adapted to meet the needs of the many vendors in the region. The deputy head of the district, Arlette Tshiaba, stressed the importance of the intervention of urban and municipal authorities to realize this project, which requires personal involvement to define a construction plan.
The residents concerned are willing to give up plots of land to allow the creation of a space dedicated to local commerce. They are thus calling for a rapid resolution of this problem, emphasizing the urgency of municipal action. In short, these modernization and development projects are more than just technical works: they represent concrete opportunities to improve the living environment and socio-economic development of Kinshasa’s neighborhoods.
The renewal of Kivu Avenue and the prospect of building a modern market in the Lubudi Nganda neighborhood demonstrate the desire of local authorities and residents to create a dynamic and viable urban environment for all. Fatshimetrie will continue to closely monitor these projects and future developments, in order to share with its readers the progress towards an ever more prosperous and dynamic Kinshasa.
