Major transformation in sight: Resizing of the RN1 in Mbuji-Mayi for a promising future

Mbuji-Mayi, October 12, 2024 (Fatshimetrie) – The city of Mbuji-Mayi, a nerve center of Kasai Oriental in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is about to undergo a major transformation. Indeed, the relocation of 60 electricity transmission poles of the National Electricity Company (SNEL) in the right-of-way of National Road Number One (RN1) is underway, marking the beginning of a series of expansion works on this essential artery.

The decision to relocate these poles is critical to allow the resizing of the RN1 into a four-lane road, a major project that aims to modernize and improve the efficiency of road infrastructure in the region. During a technical meeting at the provincial governorate, the provincial Minister of Infrastructure, Public Works and Reconstruction, Joachim Kalonji Tshibumba, stressed the importance of these prerequisites to ensure the smooth running of the road widening works.

The local authorities involved different entities such as SNEL, the Roads Office, the Roads and Drainage Office (OVD), the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT) and the Chinese company CREC 7, responsible for supervising the execution of the project. This public-private partnership illustrates the commitment of the actors involved in the progress of infrastructure for the benefit of citizens.

The provincial director of SNEL in Kasai Oriental, Ir Jean Crispin Mukendi, assured that the moving of the poles will be done in a methodical and efficient manner, in cooperation with all stakeholders. By setting a deadline of 10 days for the relocation of the 60 poles concerned, SNEL demonstrates its willingness to move forward quickly in the process of modernizing the RN1.

This project to widen the national road number one in Mbuji-Mayi represents a significant step forward for the region, providing the population with a road infrastructure adapted to the current and future needs of the city. Harmony and collaboration between the different entities involved are the keys to the success of this major undertaking, which promises to transform the urban landscape of Mbuji-Mayi for the benefit of all.

The resizing of the RN1 in Mbuji-Mayi promises to be a symbol of progress and modernity, an important step towards a more promising future for the Kasaï Oriental region. The local population will soon be able to benefit from a safer, smoother road that is better adapted to mobility needs, marking the beginning of a new era of development in this part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
