International solidarity: Algeria grants humanitarian aid of 500,000 dollars to the DRC

Fatshimetrie, October 11, 2024 – A scene marked by generosity and solidarity took place recently in Fatshimetrie, as the Ambassador of the Republic of Algeria handed over humanitarian aid worth US$500,000 to populations in forced displacement in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This aid, decided by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and granted by the Algerian government, embodies a strong commitment to the vulnerable populations of the region.

In a speech filled with warmth and respect, Dr. Mohamed Yazid Bouzid, Ambassador of Algeria to the DRC, stressed the importance of the relations of friendship and solidarity between the two countries, which have been built over sixty years of diplomatic cooperation. He stressed that this financial aid would serve to alleviate part of the immense humanitarian needs identified in the Congolese humanitarian response plan for the year 2024.

True to its tradition of supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC, Algeria continues to support the efforts of the Congolese government to put an end to the humanitarian crises in the east of the country. Dr. Yazid Bouzid stressed that lasting peace remains the most effective remedy to guarantee the well-being of local populations and allow the Congolese State to fully exercise its prerogatives throughout its territory.

This ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the election of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term. The Algerian diplomat hailed this achievement as a testament to the DRC’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, particularly in the eastern regions of the country where these rights are often violated by armed groups.

The ambassador recalled that lasting stability is closely linked to socio-economic development, stressing Algeria’s commitment to the development of Africa. He highlighted the allocation of one billion dollars to the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development in 2023, intended to finance development projects on the continent.

In response to this humanitarian aid, the Minister of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Actions and National Solidarity, Nathalie Munaya Aziza, expressed her gratitude to the Algerian President for his generosity towards the displaced populations of eastern DRC. She stressed that this gesture strengthened the ties between the two countries and demonstrated the spirit of solidarity that prevails between them.

This delivery of humanitarian aid, beyond its financial aspect, has symbolic importance and demonstrates international solidarity towards the victims of forced displacement in the DRC.She recalls that in the face of humanitarian crises, cooperation and compassion remain essential values ​​for building a better future for all.
