Kikwit, October 10, 2024 – The issue of mental health at work has become a crucial topic in the contemporary world. On the occasion of World Mental Health Day celebrated at the Ndunga Neuropsychiatric Center, on the outskirts of Kikwit, employers and employees in the Kwilu province were invited to address this issue with a new and humanistic approach.
Father Nicaise Bukayafwa, chaplain of the neuropsychiatric center, stressed the importance of considering mentally ill people as individuals in their own right, deserving respect and dignity. It is essential to fully integrate them into society and provide them with adequate support for their reintegration.
Indeed, Rev. Brother Floribert Kabindu highlighted the essential role of employers and employees in promoting mental health at work. He stressed the need to create working conditions conducive to the development of each person, thus promoting peace, joy and good mental health. Fair compensation and reasonable working hours are key elements in ensuring the well-being of workers.
Furthermore, Dr. Blandine Mapaya stressed the importance of adequate stress management in the workplace. Communication, inter-departmental dialogue and self-management of emotions are essential tools to prevent internal conflicts and promote a healthy work environment.
The Ndunga Neuropsychiatric Center, active since 2004, is committed to providing quality support to people suffering from mental illness and to raising awareness in the community about the importance of mental health. The actions carried out on this World Day are a first step towards better management of this often neglected problem.
In conclusion, investing in mental health in the workplace is not only a necessity for the well-being of individuals, but also for the productivity and performance of organizations. By promoting a healthy work environment and providing appropriate support, employers and employees contribute to building a more balanced and humane society.
