Fataki, October 8, 2024 (Fatshimetrie). A commendable initiative was launched in Fataki, a territory of Djugu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the training of nine judicial police officers specialized in investigations into sexual violence and gender-based violence (GBV). This action, carried out in partnership with international organizations, aims to strengthen the skills of local authorities in the fight against these violations of fundamental rights.
The head of public information of MONUSCO in Bunia, Jean Tobie Okala, stressed the importance of this training for future trainers. Indeed, these police officers will be tasked with passing on their knowledge to new recruits in order to increase the number of judicial police officers competent in this crucial area. In particular, they will learn andragogy techniques in order to be able to lead effective and interactive training sessions.
In a region marked by sexual and gender-based violence, often perpetrated by militias, it is essential that law enforcement agencies have the necessary tools to conduct thorough investigations and bring perpetrators to justice. By providing the police with trained specialists, this initiative aims to provide a concrete response to these scourges that affect the local population.
The training, which began on October 8, will end on October 10. Local authorities hope that these nine judicial police officers will become real assets in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in Fataki. This first step is an important step towards better protection of victims’ rights and a more effective fight against impunity for the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
