School latrine sanitation: Congolese female rescuers lead the charge for student health

Fatshimetrie, October 7, 2024 (ACP) – A commendable initiative has been launched in Maniema, Democratic Republic of Congo, to clean up latrines in schools in educational provinces 1 and 2. Led by an association of female first aiders, this sanitation operation aims to protect the health of students and teachers against infectious diseases.

Josée Kimbalanga, national coordinator of female first aiders in Congo, stressed the importance of this action, which goes beyond political considerations. Indeed, it aims to contribute to the development of the province of Maniema by providing a healthy environment for residents. This approach is part of the desire of female first aiders of the Red Cross to put in place concrete measures to improve the living conditions of local populations.

The governor of the province, Musa Kabankubi Moïse, welcomed this initiative and pledged to provide financial support for its sustainability. He announced that the government plans to collect part of the school fees to contribute to this noble cause. This measure will effectively combat pollution in school environments, which has negative repercussions on the health of students.

By encouraging this type of action, the government of Maniema is demonstrating its commitment to public health and education. The sanitation of school infrastructure is a key issue in ensuring an environment conducive to the learning and development of children. This exemplary initiative deserves to be welcomed and supported by the entire community to ensure a better future for future generations.
