Renewal in sight: Elections of members of the council of the Kinshasa/Matete Bar Association have begun

Fatshimetrie, October 08, 2024 – At the heart of the electoral frenzy today is the Kinshasa/Matete Bar Association, whose recent general assembly kicked off the elections of the members of the bar council. This crucial meeting took place at the bar headquarters in the commune of Limete, in Kinshasa, the vibrant capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Under the leadership of Me Gérard Ledi, secretary of the bar, the colleagues present were informed of the items on the agenda of this meeting of capital importance. In addition to the moral speech of the president of the bar and the report on activities and the treasury, the emphasis was placed on the elections of the members of the council, the examination of questions emanating from colleagues, as well as other miscellaneous subjects.

A crucial aspect of this general assembly is the imperative of the presence of all lawyers, in order to avoid any professional misconduct that could lead to disciplinary proceedings. For those unable to be physically present, the possibility of being represented by a colleague by means of a handwritten proxy was granted, but prohibiting it for only one person.

Concerning the elections, nine candidates volunteered to join the council of the order. Among them, masters Muzembe Pungu, Bolambele Bokimi, Bagalwa Matabaro, Bombeshay and Kampambala have put forward their experience and skills to best represent the profession. It should be noted that this year, a new directive from the national bar association Michel Shebele imposed that all general assemblies be held on the same date, Tuesday, to ensure compliance with the law and standards governing the institution.

This historic meeting, a symbol of the vitality and commitment of the legal profession in the Democratic Republic of Congo, illustrates the constant desire of the Kinshasa/Matete Bar Association to strengthen its structure and best serve the interests of its members.
