Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle steps up fight against banditry in Sokoto

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has visited Sokoto to strengthen efforts in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in the North-West of the country. The visit, initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, comes against the backdrop of an upsurge in banditry activities in the region, highlighting the determination of the Federal Government to eliminate these threats that are undermining the stability of the region.

Matawalle reiterated the commitment of the government, saying: “On the instruction of the President, I am back in Sokoto to assure the people of our commitment to achieving all the necessary objectives in the fight against insecurity. We will never leave you alone and I assure you that we will win this war against bandits and their supporters.”

The Minister expressed confidence in the ongoing military operations, including Operation “Fansan Yamma”, aimed at neutralizing criminal elements in the region. He stressed the importance of political cooperation, calling on leaders of all persuasions to support President Tinubu’s efforts to establish lasting peace.

Matawalle also issued a stern warning to bandits and their supporters, saying the government would spare no effort to root out all criminal elements. “We will not allow them to breathe or move freely. No matter how much they try to discredit or spread slander against our operations, we will remain resolute in securing the lives and property of our people,” he said.

Minister Matawalle’s visit to Sokoto is a testament to the government’s firm commitment to addressing the security challenges in the region and reflects the determination to ensure the security and tranquility of citizens. This unwavering determination to combat banditry and kidnapping enhances the confidence of the people and troops on the ground, in a collective effort to restore peace and preserve the integrity of the national territory.
