Fatshimetrie has just launched a large-scale polio vaccination campaign in the province of South Kivu. This initiative, which aims to protect one million eight hundred thousand children under the age of 5, will run from October 10 to 12. This is the third phase of vaccination conducted by the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in the region.
The Provincial Health Division organized a preparatory meeting in Bukavu to put in place the strategies necessary for the success of this campaign. With the aim of covering the 34 health zones of South Kivu, vaccinators will mobilize to carry out door-to-door vaccination for three consecutive days.
Dr. Claude Bahizire, communications officer at the DPS South Kivu, emphasizes the importance of polio vaccination by emphasizing the fact that it is the only way to prevent this devastating disease. He sadly recalls that cases of polio had been recorded in the province the previous year, leading to dramatic consequences for the children affected. Indeed, polio is a disease that can cause permanent after-effects and for which there is no curative treatment. Vaccination therefore remains the most effective bulwark to protect the youngest.
Parents are, for their part, invited to mobilize to allow the vaccination of their children. Dr. Bahizire emphasizes the importance of solidarity and collaboration of all to guarantee the health and safety of the children of the region. He insists on the fact that two drops can make all the difference and prevent tragic consequences for these young lives.
This polio vaccination campaign in South Kivu perfectly illustrates the importance of preventive actions in public health. It also demonstrates the mobilization and commitment of provincial authorities and health actors to ensure the protection of children against preventable diseases. Hopefully this initiative will help ensure a healthier and safer future for future generations in the region.
